With brilliant white flowers that average four to five inches in length, the stunning Cornus x Rutgers Starlight® is a dramatic show stealer in late Spring as its flowers pepper themselves against the dark green leaves. As this darling, fast-growing Dogwood ascends to twenty five feet, the colossal flowers have the potential to cloak the Tree in itsentirety, creating an eye-catching, jaw-dropping attraction that will make your neighbors pause in awe (and maybe a little jealousy!). And to top it off – disease and pest free!
Striking white bark with complementary black knots, remarkable golden fall color and a calming noise distinct only the Quaking Aspen – these are just a few of the attributes this trembling giant offers to a Tree Landscape. Due to its unique leaf structure, this magnificent Tree serenades you on a breezy day in a way no others can, hence the common name ‘Quaking Aspen’ or ‘Trembling Aspen’. Another claim to fame the Quaking Aspen has is the Pando Clone, otherwise known as the world’s largest living organism. At over 80,000 years old, this 100+ acre piece of land is covered by just one Tree. Yes, one. Amazingly, with one immense underground root system that encompasses over 40,000 ‘trunks’ or ‘stems’, what looks like a forest of many Trees is technically one. Can you imagine that?!
Surely a floral decorator’s favorite – the Salix Weeping Pussy Willow is best known for its springtime catkins, or the silvery-white fuzzy things, covering its branches. But our darling little weeper has more to offer a Tree Landscape than just that! Due to the relative flexibility during its younger years, our growers saw an opportunity to think outside the box and create what we call a ‘Trunk Twist’. So, instead of the same old straight trunk that you see elsewhere, these exciting new creatures have a trunk that twists up in the form of a spiral, settling at the top with the branches then cascading down. The Trunk Twist is the first of many new and thrilling forms we have created in our Tree Art family and will only be available for a short period of time!
True to name, this remarkable specimen exudes elegance as its leaves display a grand show of deep purple with a pink to almost white edge. In a sea of green, this beauty stands far above the rest as it flaunts an explosion of color, very different from anything else seen in nature. Known as a variegated leaf because of its multi-color luminosity, this stately Tree offers a season long, dramatic show that only gets better come Fall, when they exhibit an almost bronze finish. Truly a Legacy Tree, this relatively uncommon gem offers life-long value across multiple generations due to its lifespan, ranging between 150-200 years. You would rightfully be planting a majestic and extraordinary Tree for Life with this all star!
If you’re looking for unique – go no further than this! This exceptional Tree has been deemed a living fossil, dating back to pre-historic times. In fact, he is so old that the rest of his ‘family’ has died out, meaning he is the only living member of the genus Sciadopitys. Poor fella! No worries though, native to Japan, this regal gem is considered one of the five most valuable Trees in Japan’s Kiso Forest as it is used for shrines, government buildings and mansions. At one point in history, ‘common people’ were prohibited from cutting this noble Tree down and if they were caught, were arrested and tried for breaking the law! This oddity of a Tree is well worth the time, reaching mature size at around 100 years, as it has very unusual, showy, almost plastic looking needles that lead people to believe the Tree is not real until they get up close – another Legacy Tree for future generations to enjoy!

Our second introduction to the Bower & Branch First Fruits line, the Gravenstein Apple, is an oldie but a goodie! First introduced in 1797 from Europe, this Apple Tree is extremely well known for producing greatly flavorful fruit that is very crisp, sweet and juicy. Perfect for apple sauce or cider, this early and vigorous fruit provider is ideal for apple lovers who want to get a head start on the season as they fruit in late July. While highly popular in Europe and other continents, in the States, Gravenstein Apples are mainly grown on the West Coast by a few commercial growers and are only available in season. With that, their popularity grows each year as more people discover the joys of this particular apple!
Pies and juice and sauce, oh my! The Empire Apple, a member of Bower & Branch’s First Fruits line, is a shining star for all three and more!
