When spring turns balmy and the threat of frost is fading from view, Rhododendron unleashes one of the most spectacular floral shows of the season. The pretty flowers make a striking contrast to the thick, leathery leaves—a perfect partnership of rugged and delicate elements. Fun and functional, it’s one people-pleasing Accent!
CUNNINGHAM’S WHITE RHODODENDRON
Rhododendron catawbiense ‘Cunningham’s White’
Cunningham’s White Rhododendron has truly stood the test of time. When Andrew Jackson was in the White House and Earl Grey was the Prime Minister of the U.K., this celebrated evergreen Accent was introduced. It has been loved ever since. Because of its hardiness and many other fine attributes, it has been used in hybridization perhaps more than any other Rhododendron. It is also a superb plant in its own right. A profuse and reliable bloomer, its pristine white blossoms are pure joy in spring. During the rest of the year, it will look sharp in your foundation beds, patio area, or woodland garden. A classic!
ELITE PJM RHODODENDRON
Rhododendron dauricum x carolineanum ‘PJM Elite’
Not afraid of the cold! PJM Elite is a rugged Accent that lets homeowners in the northern states enjoy the pleasures of Rhododendron-growing. Evergreen Rhododendrons are some of the most beautiful plants you can buy, but many of them are too tender to grow in our coldest regions. PJM Elite is one remarkable exception. Tolerating winter lows to -30ºF, it sails through some of the roughest winters and puts on a dazzling show of lavender-pink blooms in early spring. We love it with Daffodils and early woodland wildflowers in a lightly shaded entryway garden or patio planting.
