Weeping Norway Spruce
We currently do not deliver to your area at this time, please contact us to discuss other options.
Every Weeping Norway Spruce has its own personality. Trained to a single leader, this versatile evergreen tree assumes a svelte, vertical habit with arms to its sides. Untrained, it develops a weird, wacky, and wonderful free-form shape, and is sure to be a conversation piece in your garden. As your Weeping Norway Spruce matures, finches, cardinals, and mockingbirds will discover the nooks and crannies of this funky focal point and just might decide to raise a family there. You’ll also enjoy watching red squirrels nibble on the spruce cones. This is a long-lived tree, so be sure to give it a place of prominence in the landscape, where it will get more beautiful and quirkier with each passing year.

The Story
Weeping Norway Spruce has been with us probably since the 19th Century, but no one can say exactly when or where it first appeared. It’s no surprise that it did appear, as a great many trees at some point give rise to a weeping form—among them, Japanese Maple, Eastern Redbud, Flowering Dogwood, Hemlock, cherries, willows, and pines. It’s doubtful that such a habit could give any special advantage to a plant—other than the fact that we humans love the graceful rise and fall of these mutant plants’ branches and keep them going through propagation.
The Details
Weeping Norway Spruce is one of the most popular of its kind! Why? Because it's absolutely gorgeous! The weeping branches are heavily covered in dark green needles and there's even some talk that this specimen is deer resistant! The fabulous evergreen can be easily grown, staked, and trained into an upright specimen or allowed to grow as a cascading groundcover and hanging over a support system - wouldn't that be cool in your garden?!
How to Grow
Once established, Norway Spruce doesn’t need much attention. It loves full sun, copes with drought, and suffers few pest problems. This weeping form, however, requires some assistance if you wish it to grow taller. Its natural inclination is to snake along the ground, so at the nursery, its leader is usually tied to a piece of bamboo to make it grow upwards. You can continue the process at home—just don’t leave it tied up so long that the string cuts into the bark.
