Dwarf Globe Blue Spruce - Standard
We currently do not deliver to your area at this time, please contact us to discuss other options.
Globe Blue Spruce is a first-class evergreen accent plant for the more formal areas of your landscape, such as near your front door, walkway, or driveway, or in a courtyard or patio area behind your home. Fashions come and go, but this cool blue classic is always in style, looking sharp and polished—with little effort on your part! This easy-to-grow dwarf Blue Spruce naturally takes on a compact, rounded shape with no pruning. We offer it as a low-graft (the globe sitting at ground level) or raised up on a trunk (a “standard”) like a little topiary tree. A matching pair of Globe Spruces is a fine way to call attention to an entrance door, path, or gate.

The Story
Once upon a time in 1937, a crop of Colorado Blue Spruces was sown by a Dutch nurseryman named Kluys. Out of this batch there was one seedling that did not want to be a tree like all the rest, growing instead into a tight ball. After 7 or 8 years, this darling was still only 12 inches in diameter. It became the Globe Blue Spruce that we still grow today. Our Standard Globes are grafted onto short trunks, lifting them up and making them into sharp little lollipop “trees.”
The Details
For that small spot in your yard that needs a little somethin' all year round... how 'bout a Globe Blue Spruce on a stick? The silvery blue evergreen foliage will be a highlight wherever it's planted. Dress up your front door, the end of your driveway, add a vertical element to a somewhat flat landscape bed... do whatever you want! Globe Blue Spruce standards are relatively easy to grow and will enjoy the limelight in your garden.
How to Grow
Globe Blue Spruce is a high-impact, low-maintenance plant. A tolerance for all-day sun, dry soil, and cold, snowy winters is built into its Rocky Mountain genes. Pests rarely bother it. The trunk on this grafted plant will never get taller, but the head will grow bigger and more impressive each year. Its steely blue needles look smashing in the company of other evergreens, like Norway Spruce and Emerald Arborvitae, and Japanese Maples in fall bring reds and oranges to the mix, making for a joyful but very classy picture.
