The Story

American Trumpetvine is native to the southeastern parts of the United States. It has been growing in popularity for its beauty and easy growing habit, and has grown through the development of cultivars. Madame Galen Trumpetvine was developed in 1880 by a horticulturist in Milan, Italy. There at Tagliabue Nursery of Laniate, they grew a cross between American Trumpetvine and Chinese Trumpetvine, which grew to be Madame Galen Trumpetvine as one of the most eye-catching flowering vines to grow.

How to Grow

Madame Galen Trumpetvine is easy, but there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, give it full sun and well-drained soil. Trumpetvine loves sunshine and heat, and it will show with more blooming flowers. It will be quite drought tolerant once established, but make sure to water it regularly the first year while it puts roots down. Prune it when necessary if you don't want it to be too wild. You can trim it hard in early spring without sacrificing the blooms. The most important maintenance of these flowering vines is to give them a sturdy structure to climb up; a beautiful trellis in your garden could make an elegant and unique touch!
