Flame Amur Maple - Single Stem
This Tree is not available for Sale at this time through Bower & Branch. Bower & Branch provides this information for reference only. Please check back with us or contact us for more detail.
Amur Maple is a tough, cold-hardy tree that gives you an easy way to add some hot fall color to your landscape. You'll love the flaming red tones these Maple leaves turn in sunny locations (in shadier spots, you'll get more orange and yellow). This small ornamental tree takes on a rounded shape and creates just enough shade for an outdoor sitting area made complete with a couple of cozy chairs or an inviting bench. The Amur Maple tree leafs out before all other deciduous trees in spring, giving it a good, long season of coverage when used as a privacy screen, too!

The Story
In the 19th Century, there were still plenty of Asian plants that had never been seen by Western eyes. One man alone, Carl Maximowicz, director of the St. Petersburg Botanic Garden, described over 2,300 new plants during that period. One of them was the Amur Maple, from the Amur River region between China and Siberia. Maximowicz named some of his discoveries after himself: new species of birch, hawthorn, spruce, poplar, another maple… to the dismay of future horticulture students everywhere, who would have to spell out his name on exams!
The Details
Excellent specimen tree with outstanding autumn color that's easy to grow. Great choice of a small tree that creates a good atmosphere for any landscape. Bright red seed pods bring enjoyment during fall months.
How to Grow
We grow Acer ginnala - Amur Maple mostly because of the outstanding Fall foliage color. This naturally low branching small growing tree has a form more like a shrub if let go on its own but for Bower & Branch we take the time when the tree is young to develop a single trunk and we allow branching to begin about 4 feet from ground level.
We love this Tree for even more reasons than the great fall color. Amur Maple is very easy to grow for the homeowner with little pest problems and very little care is required. Once established, minimal pruning is required, only removing branches where desired to maintain overall shape. This tree responds well to pruning in the very early Spring right through mid Summer. Best not to prune from early Fall on through Winter.
Amur Maple likes to be fertilized well to keep the lush green foliage growing, follow our Spring and Fall fertilizer program using Bower & Branch Tree Care Elements.
Amur Maple can withstand some wetter areas but prefers dryer soils and performs very well in dry conditions and through droughts. A truly worry free small tree that will be an all star each Fall. Can be used individually or planted in natural groves, you will enjoy the branching structure and the atmosphere created under this care free tree for problem areas in your landscape.
