The Story
One part artwork, one part functional outdoor furniture, 100% natural living tree: our Red Sunset® Maple Living Tree Chair is a one-of-a-kind focal point for your garden that you’ll find nowhere else. The founder of Bower & Branch first got the idea to create these Tree Chairs from a boyhood memory of a Sugar Maple that had a root flare which formed a perfect seat. He then devised a way to make the vision come to life. Our growers painstakingly shape each Living Tree Chair by hand over a period of several years to create a statement piece for your garden like no other. Who else do you know will have a patio chair that turns fiery red in the fall?
The Details
This is one sunset that will never fade away! Red Sunset Maple is one of the best selections of the native Red Maple around and an excellent choice for street trees or as a specimen in your yard. In spring, new foliage is tinged with red eventually turning green with silver undersides. Those bright green leaves turn to bright red in fall supplying you with the most memorable sunset of all!
How to Grow
Red Maples are one of those trees that you plant and don’t worry about afterwards. In other words – it’s easy to grow! These fast-growing Maples like soaking up sunshine so be sure to plant it in sunny location. Red Maples also do fairly well in most soil conditions as long as the soil has good drainage. Once established, your tree will be more tolerant of wet soil conditions. For the first 3 or 4 years that your Red Maple graces your garden, give it a low rate fertilizer about once a year in the fall to help it produce healthy new growth for the following spring season. Red Maples don’t need a lot of attention when it comes to pruning. Red Maples don’t have any major pest or disease problems, which is wonderful. One slight inconvenience you might encounter is their surface roots. These surface roots make it difficult for anything to grow underneath them – grass or plants (a great spot for a sitting area if you ask me). If you can overcome this minor detail, you got yourself a beautiful shade tree with gorgeous red fall color!
