The Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry Tree is a malleable tree when young and makes a charming and quirky specimen when given a wavy serpentine trunk, like you’ll find on the Bower & Branch™ Trunk Twist Snow Fountain® Cherry. But we said, “Why stop there?” Using the ancient craft of bending and shaping young trees, our growers have devised a way to create a stunning one-of-a-kind Living Tree Chair out of an ordinary Snow Fountain® Cherry Tree. This treatment doesn’t harm the tree, but merely redirects its growth. The training takes several years of patient work, which is finally coming to fruition, and we are very excited to now be able to offer to you this fun and functional Living Tree Chair for your own backyard.
Great characteristics for tight spaces. Loads of gorgeous, white flowers cascade down the branches, welcoming the arrival of spring's longer days and warmer temperatures. Provides an excellent focal point in your landscape. A fountain of white in early spring with a fall show of orange to red foliage.
How to Grow
Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry thrives in any sunny location in most types of soil, except those that stay wet. This is a grafted tree, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for suckers coming up from the base of the tree or growing straight up from the trunk—prune these out immediately. (Click here for the full scoop on pruning Weeping Cherries.) You’ll also want to watch out for Japanese beetles, which may chew Snow Fountain’s® leaves in summer. They may be picked off by hand or controlled with chemicals or organic sprays. Please don’t hesitate to ask our tree care specialists here at Bower & Branch™ for advice on the pest control plan that works best for you!
Questions & Answers
Q: Wondering when is the best time to plant a Snow Fountain Weeping Cherry Tree? (submitted 8/16/16)
A: Good question! For Snow Fountain the goal is to plant as early in Fall as possible and while the weather today does not indicate Fall has arrived, it has for the tree. The sooner we can plant the more root development we can expect through the remaining growing months. Roots can grow well into early Winter due to warmer soil temperatures.
Fall planting of Snow Fountain brings rewards! You will get to enjoy the Spring season show of color and at the same time your tree will grow quickly next season and will be prepared for Summer weather next year whatever that might be.
Follow our recommended planting practices and go forward with full confidence right now. Should the Summer weather persist, be sure to use our Water Element to assist you with keeping the newly planted tree watered well and properly. Through the Fall the Snow Fountain will enjoy more water as the tree continues to grow roots and stem caliper.
But remember: the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is today!
