The Story

Emerald Green Arborvitae is a type of Eastern Arborvitae, a venerable tree of the northeastern U.S. and Canada that takes the prize as the longest-lived North American tree east of the Rockies. It can live an incredible 1,700 years! Weathered old specimens may be found clinging bravely to steep cliffsides or inhabiting swampy lowlands in the wild. Emerald Arborvitae is a special selection chosen for its svelte columnar habit and its rich green winter color (some other Arbs turn a muddy green color in cold weather). It emerged from a Danish nursery, which is why you’ll sometimes find it listed as ‘Smaragd’ Arborvitae. ‘Smaragd’ is the Danish word for ‘Emerald’.

The Details

The soft, fragrant foliage of Emerald Green Arborvitae makes a wonderful green canvas for our artist-growers to work their magic. Our growers must be patient, as it takes a long time for this slow-growing tree to fill out and take its final shape, but once their job is done, you’ll have a one-of-a-kind Square-Circle-Teardrop Emerald Arborvitae Topiary Tree ready to plant in your landscape to wow your guests and neighbors.
