Scotch Pine Oriental Pompom Topiary
Normally a Christmas-tree-shaped conifer, the sturdy Scotch Pine has been transformed into an elegant Oriental Pompom Tree by our talented Bower & Branch nursery team. Our topiary experts carefully train and shape each tree over a period of years before it is ready to take a starring role in your garden. The result is a distinctive upright evergreen specimen that looks a bit like a bonsai tree for the landscape. The branches are artfully spaced apart and each ends in a tuft of rich green needles. You’ll want to prune your Scotch Pine Oriental Pompom Topiary Tree in spring after the new growth appears; we’ll show you how if you need some help.
Scotch Pine (or Scot’s Pine) is a rugged evergreen tree native to a wide region of the northern latitudes stretching all the way from Scotland to Siberia. Where this adaptable tree bravely grabs a foothold onto windy, exposed slopes, it often develops an especially picturesque character—the short, deep green needles become concentrated at the tips, and the sculptural framework of the branches is put on full view. Our skillful growers give our nursery-grown Scotch Pines a somewhat similar look when they shape each one by hand into a handsome and distinctive Oriental Pompom Topiary Tree.
You may be familiar with Scotch Pine not as a landscape tree, but in another role—as a Christmas Tree! Field-grown Scotch Pines have a neat, pyramidal shape, and because they take so well to pruning, they can be sheared to make them grow even more dense and perfectly conical. The needles have a resinous scent, and this delightful Christmas-Tree aroma will make pruning your Scotch Pine Oriental Pompom Topiary Tree each year a special pleasure.
