The Golden Sentinel™ Columnar Apple is a revolutionary tree that gives you the freedom to enjoy flavorful homegrown apples no matter how limited your garden space may be. You can even grow it in a large pot on the patio. With virtually no side branches, Golden Sentinel™ Apple forms a svelte pole shape, making it easy to squeeze into any sunny nook in your landscape. Lovely white Apple blossoms in spring will kick off the growing season, followed by a generous crop of luscious, juicy yellow fruits that ripen in September and October. Plant Golden Sentinel™ in the vicinity of another Apple or Crabapple Tree, such as Scarlet Sentinel™, to ensure good pollination and fruit set.

Pole-form Apple Trees have been around for many years, but they have become extremely popular just in the last several years. Homeowners are finding that the columnar trees are not only easier to integrate into smaller landscapes, but they also don’t create the waste and mess that a full-sized tree can produce. (How many apples can your family eat, anyway?) The Golden Sentinel™ Columnar Apple Tree was developed in Summerland, British Columbia in the 1980s. Plant breeders strategically crossed three different Apple Trees to get superior flavor, firmness, storage life, and productivity into one columnar golden-fruited tree. The result was an unqualified success—a Golden-Delicious-type apple on a tree with that winning super-skinny shape.
The Golden Sentinel™ apple is a sweet, mellow dessert apple. It isn’t related to Golden Delicious, but it is similar to it. Golden Sentinel™ is tops for fresh eating and pairs wonderfully with cheese. In fact, it’s especially nice on a party tray, because its white flesh is slower to turn brown than that of other apples.
How to Grow
Plant your Golden Sentinel™ Columnar Apple Tree in a bright, sunny spot with good air circulation all around and soil that drains well. Irrigate regularly during the first couple of years of establishment and during dry spells after that. Mulch annually with bark or wood chips to keep the root zone cool and moist. Monitor your tree carefully for possible pest or disease issues, as Apple Trees are subject to more potential problems than many other trees. Remove and destroy any diseased leaves, fruit, or branches you find. Although success with Apple Trees may take a little more work than with other trees, the rewards are great, and know that our expert growers are on hand at email@example.com to answer any questions that you might have.
