It’s a living sculpture! If you like art, then you’ll love our Serpentine Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry. This unconventional small flowering tree has all the features of the Snow Fountain® Cherry your neighbor has, but with one major difference: a quirky curvaceous trunk. You’ll enjoy the same sparkling white spring blossoms and weeping habit of the original, but in the winter will come the big reveal when its S-shaped trunk is put on full display. Plant it in a high-traffic area near your front entryway or back patio to garner oohs and ahhs from guests. This petite tree will not outgrow its space like other Weeping Cherries and will be a delight for years to come.
The folks at Lake County Nursery near Cleveland, Ohio, are trailblazers in the field of horticulture, with nearly 150 new plant introductions to their name. Their most popular selection of all? Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry, introduced in 1985. This tree has it all: cheery spring blossoms, a compact habit, beautiful bark, and a kaleidoscope of fall colors. But just when you thought this tree couldn’t get any better, we gave it a whole new look with a serpentine trunk. It was already pretty—now it’s a bombshell!
The Serpentine Snow Fountain® Weeping Cherry Tree enchants with an avalanche of spring flowers and a cool, wavy trunk, but there’s yet another reason to love this tree—amazing fall color! Snow Fountain® has some of the most dynamic autumn color of all the Cherries. When nights turn frosty, its foliage turns yellow, purple, orange, and pink-red, eventually becoming a glowing scarlet-orange.
How to Grow
Since your Serpentine Snow Fountain® Cherry is going to be the showpiece of the neighborhood, you should learn how to keep it looking healthy and happy. It’s really not that complicated. Like all Cherry Trees, Snow Fountain® loves to bask in full sun and gladly accepts regular irrigation, but it hates to sit around with “wet feet.” Irrigate with the Bower & Branch Elements™ Watering System and fertilize annually with Elements™ Fertilizer to help your tree establish a strong root system. Be sure to remove suckers from the base of the tree as soon as they appear, and if you see any branches sprouting from the trunk, nip ’em in the bud (literally). You’ll want a clear view of that curvaceous trunk!
