Phenomenal™ Lavender is a treat for the eyes and the nose. This popular new Spirit features masses of purple blossoms over handsome, gray-green leaves for weeks in summer. The flowers and foliage offer up that classic, soothing Lavender scent; you’ll want to keep a plant or two near your door, so you’ll always have some close at hand for cutting. Grow it in a pot or in the ground—Phenomenal™ gets its name from its outstanding performance in the landscape. It may be the most adaptable Lavender ever sold!

The Story
Phenomenal™ Lavender was introduced by Lloyd Traven of Kintnersville, Pennsylvania. It appeared in 2007 as a chance mutation in a crop of Lavender called Grosso at his nursery, Peace Tree Farm. The new plant was smaller and more compact than the rest. After he planted it out into the landscape and observed it for a few years, Traven was thrilled with how well it performed. It didn’t die out in the middle, like many Lavenders tend to do in humid climates (they are adapted to very dry, Mediterranean-type summers). Phenomenal™ was born!
The Details
Add Phenomenal™ Lavender flower spikes to a jar of potpourri to fill a room in your house with its fresh yet calming fragrance. You can also make Lavender satchels to keep in your linen closet or dresser drawers or to give away as gifts.
How to Grow
Full sun and fast-draining soils are necessities for Phenomenal™ Lavender. Although it is more resilient than other Lavenders, it should be given the same care—or rather, tough love—that they prefer. These Spirits are adapted to low water, sandy or rocky soil, and low fertility. Spoiling them with rich soil and regular irrigation can lead to their demise. Do not trim Phenomenal™ Lavender in the fall, but wait until new growth appears in spring before doing any major pruning.
