The Story

Cruizin’™ Broad Street is a selection of Threadleaf Tickseed, a Spirit that grows wild in the eastern United States. Our native Threadleaf Tickseed almost always sports yellow flowers, but recently, exciting new red, peach, and multicolored forms have appeared on the market. Broad Street arose as a chance red seedling in the garden of Pennsylvania nurserywoman, Patti Bauer, in 2009. Itsaul Plants of Alpharetta, Georgia, helped her to get it into production. It was introduced to the public in 2012. Other members of the Cruizin’™ series include Main Street, Sunset Strip, Electric Avenue, and Route 66.

The Details

Cruizin’™ Broad Street Tickseed is a native plant with low water needs once it’s established in the landscape. This is one Spirit that’s not only beautiful, but also low-maintenance and ecologically friendly!

How to Grow

Cruizin’™ Broad Street Tickseed is not hard to grow, and novice gardeners will have success with it. Just plant it where it will receive full sun all day and make sure the soil drains freely. It will need regular water while the roots get established in the ground, but after that it will be less needy. Soggy soils in winter can spell trouble. Go light on the fertilizer, feeding only when growth appears pale or weak. Cut old growth back before new shoots appear in spring. Tickseed craves heat, so it may take a while to reappear if spring is unusually cool.
